Sports data site makes case for Lions QB Jared Goff as NFL MVP

The Detroit Lions have the No. 1-ranked offense and scoring offense in the NFL this season thanks to quarterback Jared Goff.

Goff has had a career resurgence under first-year offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, tying Patrick Mahomes for the NFL lead in touchdown passes (11) and ranking third behind Justin Herbert and Josh Allen in passing yards (1,126).

Considering his body of work through the first four games of the season, sports stats and information website StatMuse recently tweeted about Goff’s impressive 2022 resume, in which he seems to have a solid case for NFL MVP.

Goff is averaging 281.5 yards passing per game with two four-touchdown outings. It’s just the third time he’s has multiple four-touchdown games in the same season, and the first since 2018 when he was with the Los Angeles Rams.

The former No. 1 overall pick is on pace to set career highs in passing yards and touchdown passes, and he’s just 1.2 points behind his career-best mark in passer rating.

Goff’s 378 yards passing in Sunday’s 48-45 loss to the Seattle Seahawks was the most he’s thrown in a game since he had 424 yards against the Arizona Cardinals on Dec. 1, 2019, and it was his first 300-yard game since Week 1 of the 2021 season.

Goff is one of just three QBs with double-digit touchdown passes and three or fewer interceptions. Mahomes and Allen are the other two.
