One sports personality though Bruce Arians stepping down as head coach was inevitable. Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Clairvoyant Bill appears to have struck again.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians stunningly announced on Wednesday that he is retiring from coaching and transitioning into a front-office role. Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles will take over as the team’s head coach.

The Ringer’s Bill Simmons promptly took a victory lap over the news, noting that he had predicted 17 days earlier that Arians might no longer coach the Bucs. Simmons said in a March 13 episode of his podcast that “there’s a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes” with Arians and Tom Brady. Simmons also added that “I’d be interested to see if [Arians] is the coach in a month.”

Brady, who had played under Arians for the past two seasons (including their victory in Super Bowl LV), came out of retirement earlier this month. Rumors of friction between him and Arians already existed, and now there is talk that Brady may have even conditioned his return on Arians’ removal.

As for Simmons, he is proving to be quite the prophet. Several weeks prior to it happening, Simmons had also predicted that Brady would unretire (even though Simmons was only half-right with his prediction there).
