The Pittsburgh Steelers wasted no time in attempting to secure the young linebacker Jeremiah Moon from their AFC North rivals, the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers initiated the  claim process on January 26th, patiently awaiting the resolution of administrative procedures, which culminated after the conclusion of the Super Bowl.

According to Aaron Wilson's report on Monday, the Steelers emerged victorious in their bid for Moon, successfully acquiring the linebacker off waivers from the Ravens.

Steelers Earn Ravens Linebacker Jeremiah Moon From NFL Waivers

The Ravens' decision to relinquish Moon from their roster stemmed from the imperative need to create space for tight end Mark Andrews, who was poised to make his return from injury. Moon's departure paved the way for Andrews' reinstatement to the 53-player roster. The transaction occurred following the placement of Daryl Worley on the injured reserve list, prompting the Ravens to sign Moon to the active roster on December 30th.

Throughout the 2023 season, Moon's tenure with the Ravens oscillated between stints on the active roster and assignments to the practice squad. Notably, Moon showcased his capabilities during critical moments, contributing three defensive snaps and 16 plays on special teams in the Ravens' Divisional Round victory against the Houston Texans.

Despite limited opportunities, Moon made his presence felt on the field, featuring in eight games and earning one start during the 2023 season. His stat line, comprising 12 tackles and two forced fumbles, underscores his ability to impact games despite sparse playing time. A product of the University of Florida, Moon entered the NFL as an undrafted prospect in 2022, bringing with him a towering physique, standing at 6'5" and weighing 250 pounds.

At 25 years old, Moon represents a developmental project with substantial upside potential. While his immediate prospects for significant playing time may be modest, his physical attributes and demonstrated skill set position him as a promising asset for the Steelers' defensive unit.

The Steelers' decision to secure Moon via waivers aligns with their strategic imperative to bolster depth and resilience within the linebacker corps. The 2023 season witnessed the Steelers grappling with a slew of injuries at the linebacker position, underscoring the necessity for reinforcements and contingency planning. Moon will certainly provide the Steelers' linebacker room with a bit more depth.

By adding Moon to their roster, the Steelers mitigate the risk associated with potential injury setbacks, ensuring a robust and versatile defensive lineup capable of weathering the rigors of NFL competition. Furthermore, Moon's integration into the Steelers' defensive scheme fosters cohesion and adaptability.

In acquiring Moon from the Ravens, the Steelers assertively address their defensive needs while simultaneously bolstering their roster with a project who could turn into promising talent. Moon's journey from undrafted prospect to NFL linebacker epitomizes the resilience and determination requisite for success in professional football.

Moon is a player fueled by a burning desire to showcase his worth to his former team, determined to prove that they erred in letting him slip away. There's an undeniable thrill in acquiring a talent from a rival team, especially when that talent harbors significant untapped potential. While perhaps not the splashiest headline of the offseason, this move, set in motion several weeks ago, has finally come to fruition, marking a significant milestone for the Steelers' defensive lineup.

It underscores the team's strategic approach to bolstering their depth and ensuring they remain competitive in the ever-evolving landscape of professional football. As Moon steps onto the field clad in the black and gold, he carries with him not just his own aspirations for success, but also the hopes and expectations of a fan base eager to see their team ascend to greater heights.

As Moon embarks on the next chapter of his career with the Steelers, the franchise and its fans harbor optimism regarding his potential contributions and impact on the team's defensive aspirations. With Moon's arrival, the Steelers' defensive ambitions receive a minor boost.
