The Steelers have revealed the new uniform numbers for the running backs they signed on Tuesday due to a slew of injuries and other transactions that took place within the team. Former Lions running back Greg Bell will wear No. 33 while former Penn State RB John Lovett will wear No. 33.

Bell takes over the recently released Jason Huntley’s No. 38. It is a double number that Bell shares with cornerback Madre Harper. Some notable players that have worn the number include Sidney Thornton, Jaylen Samuels, Ed Bradley, and Tim Worley with the Steelers.

Lovett takes over No, 33, most recently worn by running backs Jeremy McNichols and Trey Edmunds. This is also a double number that Lovett shares with cornerback Duke Dawson. Some notable names to wear the number in the past include Merrill Hoge, Frenchy Fuqua, Richard Huntley, Bam Morris, Isaac Redman, and Harvey Clayton.

Bell came out of San Diego State and had a stint in 2022 with the Detroit Lions. But was injured and suffered a hamstring in training camp. He would then come back for 2023 but the team waived him back on July 22nd. Over his college career at three different stops, Bell racked up over 4000 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns. In his final season with the Aztecs, he posted over 1000 rushing yards with the team.

Lovett played with Penn State in 2021 after transferring out of Baylor, where he played from 2017 to 2020. During his time at college with the Nittany Lions and Baylor, he put up 1980 yards and 17 touchdowns over five years in the NCAA. His best season was in 2019 when Lovett posted 655 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns on 103 rushes with the Baylor Bears.

Playing with the Vegas Vipers under the direction of head coach Rod Woodson, he posted 227 yards on 59 carries and 3 touchdowns. However, he added in 14 receptions for 269 yards, flashing some real skill out of the backfield as a receiver that could make him intriguing.
