Steelers star DT discusses Eagles' unstoppable play

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward discussed the Philadelphia Eagles' "Tush Push" during his appearance on "Good Morning Football" on Thursday.

The Eagles have been employing their seemingly unstoppable version of the quarterback sneak since last season. On the play (typically third- or fourth-and-one or inches), the signal-caller gets an extra push or pull from teammates to get him either past the first down marker or into the end zone.

The specialty has been particularly dominant with last year's MVP runner-up Jalen Hurts under center. Despite missing two games during the 2022 season, Hurts finished second in the NFL with 13 rushing touchdowns, and he's already posted three scores on the ground in 2023 (all of which have been one-yard plunges).

The 25-year-old had three rushing touchdowns during his team's 38-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII, which tied a record for the big game. Two of the scores came via the "Tush Push."

The NFL competition committee considered eliminating the play or altering it in some way over the offseason, but no changes were made.

Heyward said last year that the play "triggered" him.

"I'm always pissed off in these fourth downs because it's always so skewed to the offense," he said on the "Not Just Football" podcast. "I'm just confused why they switched the rule. It used to be a penalty to push your guy forward. Nobody really noticed until the Eagles were like, oh, this is unstoppable."

As far as alternatives to the name, Peter Schrager of "Good Morning Football" recently suggested "Brotherly Shove," which Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni looks to have signed off on.

The new debate this week has been what to call the unstoppable play, but for those pining for a ban on it, it looks like they'll have to wait at least another year.
