Steelers still plan to add to position of need

The Steelers have been busy rebuilding their roster for 2023 and they are far from being done with a few positions that still need to be addressed.

Mike Tomlin told reporters Pittsburgh will still add at the safety position in free agency or the draft after saying goodbye to safety Terrell Edmunds, who signed a one-year deal with the Eagles last week.

Letting Edmunds walk came as a surprise to some as he was a solid player for the Steelers over the first five years of his career. However, the 26-year-old failed to live up to his first-round pick expectations.

Pittsburgh did re-sign safety Damontae Kazee to a two-year deal but the soon-to-be 30-year-old seems to be a band-aid solution or depth piece.

Although, there isn't much safety talent left in free agency after Pro Football Focus' highest ranked safety, Taylor Rapp, just signed with the Bills.  Safeties Adrian Amos (No. 17) and John Johnson III (No. 34) are two of the best options left on PFF's top remaining free agents list.

The Steelers do have three picks in the top 50 of the 2023 NFL Draft. But with other positions of need, it would be smart for Pittsburgh to add to the position before the draft for insurance.
