Strong camp performance shows why Cowboys WR will enter OPOY discussion

Since Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb keeps dazzling in training camp, don't be surprised if he becomes a bona fide Offensive Player of the Year candidate this season.

Per FanDuel, Lamb has the 11th-best odds (+3500) of winning the award. However, they will increase if the 24-year-old keeps making highlight-reel plays, such as a leaping TD grab over cornerback Daron Bland in the corner of the end zone during practice on Thursday.

"Like [linebacker] Micah Parsons, he looks ready for the season to start immediately," The Athletic's Jon Machota wrote of Lamb's camp performance. "We have not yet seen the best from him."

Lamb unlocking more potential is great for the Cowboys. Last season, he recorded a career-high 107 receptions for 1,359 yards and nine TDs in 17 games and made his second consecutive Pro Bowl appearance.

Even though Dallas acquired WR Brandin Cooks this offseason, it will continue to rely on Lamb since he proved he's a No. 1 WR. Per Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports, he accounted for 30 percent of the Cowboys' receptions last season, second in the NFL.

Plus, he and quarterback Dak Prescott have a strong connection. Per ESPN Stats and Information, their 74.8 yards per game rank eighth among 99 quarterback-receiver duos that have played 25 games together.

"CeeDee's a guy, I'll say it, I believe it, I think he'll be the best receiver in the league," Prescott recently said, via ESPN's Todd Archer. "He's really only scratched the surface in what he's capable of doing.

A potential contract extension for Lamb—who has two years left on his deal—will incentivize him to maximize his performance. His Spotrac market value is a four-year deal worth $22.5M annually. Winning OPOY would help him secure a massive payday.

While winning OPOY is challenging, it's not impossible because Lamb's becoming one of the best wideouts in the league.
