The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are trying to find their way in the post-Tom Brady era. While there are some questions at quarterback, the rest of the offense has some great pieces, especially at wide receiver. That unit took a blow today when Russell Gage went down with a potentially serious injury.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Russell Gage Injured

The injury was suffered during a joint practice with the New York Jets. Reports indicate that it was a non-contact injury to the leg when Gage was backpedaling. The reports also indicate that it did not look good. Teammates took and knee and Gage was reportedly in tears as he was being carted off. There is no final word on what exactly the injury is but from all indications, Gage will likely be out for a while. This is a blow to a team that needs a lot of things to go right if they are going to have a winning season.

More Pressure On The Others

Mike Evans and Chris Godwin will likely see an increased workload. They also could see more attention from opposing defenses. The offense already will likely be challenged by Baker Mayfield or Kyle Trask being the starter. Gage was entering a year where he was hoping to prove himself in order to get a new contract with either the Bucs or another team. Now, it looks like he will be on the long road to recovery.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have to move on without Russell Gage most likely. This team is hoping to surprise some people but ultimately might end up picking in the top five of next year’s draft.
