Texans are 'day to day' with Deshaun Watson being on roster

The Houston Texans understandably don't want to trade disgruntled quarterback Deshaun Watson at a discounted price but likely won't get full value for him in a transaction because he's still facing 22 lawsuits alleging acts of sexual assault and misconduct and 10 criminal complaints. Houston also can't suspend Watson without pay because he hasn't yet been formally charged with any crime.

Per Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle, Texans coach David Culley told reporters Monday the club is "day to day" regarding Watson's status on the roster.

Watson hasn't been placed on the commissioner's exempt list and is eligible to be traded to a team such as the Miami Dolphins, who have been heavily linked with the 25-year-old in recent rumors. While the Dolphins haven't publicly denied having any interest in Watson, coach Brian Flores said plenty without directly mentioning the player on Monday.

"We have a high standard for the people we have in the organization. We want people with high character throughout the building," Flores explained.

As Jordan Heck noted for Sporting News, it seems likely Watson will be banned from playing for at least a portion of the upcoming campaign, and there's no guarantee he will suit up for any club ever again depending on the outcomes of the cases. For now, veteran Tyrod Taylor is Houston's starting quarterback heading into the season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 12.
