Texans GM offers insight on Houston's draft night plans

Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio isn't going anywhere and sounds ready to sell the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft for the right price.

According to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio and Eric Edholm of the NFL's website, Caserio confirmed Monday he's "received some calls" about the second draft choice that will be used by one team on April 27.

"So if you want to quote me … Are we open for business? I would say we're open to listening," Caserio explained. "If you want to change the vocabulary a little bit. But we have received a few calls, and again I think our responsibility is to listen, to try and take the information and then just make the right decision."

As of late Monday afternoon, OddsChecker listed Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young as the overwhelming betting favorite to go to the Carolina Panthers via the draft's first pick at -1000 odds. While ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. and five CBS Sports analysts believe Houston will take either Young or Ohio State Buckeyes signal-caller, C.J. Stroud, depending on what the Panthers do, CBS' Will Brinson thinks the Texans could instead grab Alabama pass-rusher Will Anderson Jr. with the second choice.

Meanwhile, NBC Sports' Peter King wrote in his latest "Football Morning in America" column that Houston could potentially trade down and draft Texas Tech Red Raiders edge rusher, Tyree Wilson.

"Someone in the league who knows" new Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans, who previously served as the San Francisco 49ers' defensive coordinator, told King that "Ryans could look at Wilson after his year in San Francisco and say, 'I got my Nick Bosa.'"

Florio mentioned the Indianapolis Colts, Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans and Minnesota Vikings as teams that could be interested in acquiring the second pick from Houston before the draft gets underway.
