Texans WR Brandin Cooks reportedly receives $36M guaranteed in two-year extension

The Houston Texans ensured that speedy wide receiver Brandin Cooks wouldn't be going anywhere at least during this offseason when they reportedly came to terms on a two-year extension that, ideally, will keep the 28-year-old attached to the club through the 2024 season.

More information about the agreement emerged on Friday.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport (h/t Grant Gordon), Cooks' extension is worth up to $39.6 million and includes $36 million in guaranteed money. According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, the average annual value of the contract puts Cooks into the top 10 of the league's highest-paid receivers.

While star quarterback Deshaun Watson sat the entire 2021 season out following his offseason trade request, Cooks led the Texans for the campaign with 90 catches, 134 targets, 1,037 receiving yards and six touchdown grabs, per ESPN stats. After Watson waived his no-trade clause to join the Cleveland Browns in March, outlets such as Bleacher Report noted that ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Houston had "received multiple calls on Cooks."

However, Rapoport explained that the Texans "were never going to trade" Cooks either before last fall's trade deadline or this offseason:
