Texans shut down Brandin Cooks trade rumors with two-year extension

It appears Brandin Cooks is staying with the Houston Texans after all, as the two sides have agreed to a two-year extension that will keep him with the team through the 2024 season, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Earlier this week, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported the Texans received "multiple calls" from teams interested in trading for Cooks. Among the teams that reportedly made an inquiry about the receiver were the Cleveland Browns, who added Amari Cooper in a trade earlier in the offseason.

Cooks, 28, was the New Orleans Saints' first-round pick in 2014, but spent only three seasons with the team before he was traded to the New England Patriots in a deal that sent a first-round pick to the Saints. After one season with the Patriots, he was again traded for a package including a first-round pick when he was acquired by the Los Angeles Rams.

The Rams kept Cooks for two seasons before trading him to the Texans for a second-round pick that was used to draft wide receiver Van Jefferson.

In two seasons with the Texans, Cooks has 2,187 receiving yards and 12 touchdown receptions. He has eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in six of his eight NFL seasons.
