Texans WR Nico Collins makes bold claim about offense

The Houston Texans made one of the biggest splashes of the NFL offseason when they acquired star wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills.

While speaking with reporters at his youth football camp over the weekend, Houston receiver Nico Collins shared a bold claim about what the club's offense will be during the 2024 season.

"Oh yeah, it’s going to be dangerous, real dangerous, man," a confident Collins said, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 Sports. "Adding Diggs to the room, it’s going to be a lot of weapons. There’s going to be great opportunities for everybody. It’s only adding more depth, more weapons to the offense, more weapons to the team. The sky is the limit for us. Can’t wait until the season is going to start."

Along with Diggs, Houston also added running back Joe Mixon to a unit that already featured Collins, fellow receiver Tank Dell and tight end Dalton Schultz. Of course, Collins and his 2023 teammates flourished this past campaign thanks largely to the efforts of quarterback and reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud.

"Man, it’s nice," Collins continued during his comments. "I feel like the offense is a lot of weapons. Everybody has got a chance. When the ball is in their hands, an explosive play is coming. I feel like, for us, we need to continue to work on the details, continue to be us, continue to have fun and show the world what we can do. I can’t wait for it."

Per Pro Football Reference, Stroud ended his first NFL regular season ranked first among qualified quarterbacks with 273.9 passing yards per game and sixth with a 100.8 passer rating. Across 15 contests, he tossed 23 touchdown passes and five interceptions en route to guiding the Texans to the division title and a playoff win.

The previously mentioned Diggs generated headlines throughout 2023 due to perceived issues he had with Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen. Collins indicated Diggs has been an ideal teammate early into his Houston tenure.

"I met him for the first time when he came in and signed and stuff, but cool peoples," Collins said about Diggs. "Can’t wait to get on the field with him and share the field with him. It’s a blessing to share the room with him. I can’t wait to join him and get back in this offense and show the world what we’re about."

As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook listed Houston fifth among the betting favorites at +850 odds to represent the AFC in Super Bowl LIX.

The Texans will need Collins, Diggs and others to help Stroud avoid a sophomore slump if they wish to earn more than a single postseason victory in January 2025.
