The best-looking Super Bowls and fan fashions over the years
What are the best-looking Super Bowls over the years? Also, how has fashion at football games evolved since the early days of the Super Bowl? Well, a lot has changed over the past five decades as far as looks go, both on and off the field. Let's take a look.
Super Bowl I: Chiefs vs. Packers (1967)
The first Super Bowl may not have been a monumental event at the time, but it was definitely a great matchup when it came to the uniforms. Both of these teams uniforms nearly are the same today, which is evidence that the looks they're sporting in this image are truly timeless.
Super Bowl II: Packers vs. Raiders (1968)
Again, this was a matchup between two teams that stumbled onto near perfection when they designed their uniforms. The Raiders today look identical to the Raiders back in Super Bowl II, and we also got a look at the Packers and their excellent away uniforms.
A look at 1960s fashion
Remember when sporting events used to be a formal affair? Just take a look at the fans and sideline crew. Everybody here is dressed in his or her Sunday best, which is in stark contrast to what we'll see as the years pass by.
Super Bowl XII: Cowboys vs. Broncos (1978)
Historically, nothing good happens for the Broncos when they wear orange at the Super Bowl. That doesn't mean they look bad in orange, though, and they never looked better than when they donned the old-school Orange Crush unis in 1978. Plus, this was back when the Cowboys' shades of silver and blue almost matched each other, so that's nice.
Super Bowl XIII: Cowboys vs. Steelers (1979)
The uniform matchup in 1979 topped what we saw in 1978, because we got the lovely Cowboys uniforms and the classic uniforms of the Pittsburgh Steelers — back when the Steelers wore their block numbers instead of the italic numbers that they wear today. It was a classic game and an excellent uniform matchup.

Meanwhile, the fans in the stands are still dressing fine, but as you can see, things are starting to get a little more casual as the years go on. This will continue to be a trend as we zoom through time.
Super Bowl XVIII: Redskins vs. Raiders (1984)
The Raiders make another appearance on this list, and it won't be the last time that they'll show up. This is Washington's only appearance, but it's well-deserved. These uniforms are classic, and when combined with the Raiders' timeless look, you had a uniform matchup that was easy on the eyes.
Super Bowl XXIII: Bengals vs. 49ers (1989)
The 49ers had classic uniforms during their glory days of the '80s, but they were in stark contrast to what the Bengals were wearing in this game. With that being said, the Bengals truly broke ground with their helmets, and this interesting clash of styles made an entertaining game even better when it came to the uniforms.
A look at 1980s fashion
Super Bowl XX wasn't the best-looking game when it came to uniforms, but this picture summed up '80s fashion in a nutshell. One guy's wearing a suit with a interesting pattern on his blazer, then there's another guy wearing a multicolored, multistriped shirt underneath a navy jacket, while Jim McMahon is sporting a headband and nobody is batting an eye. Welcome to the '80s.
A look at 1990s fashion
No Super Bowls from the 1990s made this list, but as you can see in this photo, the "casual-ization" of fashion at football games officially came to a head in the 1990s. As the photo depicts, none of the fans here is sporting a suit or any type of dress clothes. Instead, they're all in full fan regalia, and we're a long way away from the old days at this point.
Super Bowl XXXVII: Raiders vs. Buccaneers (2003)
The Raiders make yet another appearance on this list, but this time they were outdone by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs were wearing modern classics at this point, and these uniforms are sorely missed. But for the time, this was one of the best-looking Super Bowls ever, and we really should've appreciated it more.
Super Bowl XLI: Colts vs. Bears (2007)
Super Bowl XLI may have been a rainy game, but the conditions didn't put a damper on a solid uniform matchup between the Colts and Bears. These are two teams that have made few changes to their uniform designs, and we ended up getting an excellent uniform matchup as a result.
A look at 2000s fashion
Today Tom Brady is known as one of the most fashion-forward players in sports. However, when he showed up to receive his car for winning MVP of Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004, you can tell that he was a few years away from taking the crown of fashion MVP.
Super Bowl XLV: Steelers vs. Packers (2011)
The Packers and Steelers have made appearances on this list before, but it was truly magical when the two teams were able to square off on the field in 2011. Both teams have classic uniforms, which meant that we were in for a treat even if the two teams switched home and away unis.
Super Bowl XLVII: Ravens vs. 49ers (2013)
The latest entry on this list comes from 2013, which is when the 49ers and Ravens squared off in Super Bowl XLVII. The Niners are currently wearing excellent uniforms after updating their dynasty uniforms for the modern era, while the Ravens wore their black-white-black away uniform combo and looked solid while doing so. This uniform matchup holds up with every other one that we've seen on this list.
A look at current fashion
Finally, we have a look at a few Broncos fans and what they wore to Super Bowl 50. I imagine they probably would've been kicked out of Super Bowl I for all sorts of reasons, but in today's day and age, they fit right in with the rest of the crowd. They'd much rather represent their team than impress anybody with what they're wearing. Whether or not that's a good or bad thing depends on your own style and tastes.
