NEW ORLENS -   It wouldn't be sacrilegious to request that the Pope or Archbishop commemorate March 14 as a special day for the New Orleans Saints, Drew Brees, and the Who Dat Nation.

On March 14, 2006, the free-agent signing of Drew Brees may have been the most monumental and transformative transaction in the history of the National Football League.

Team owner Tom Benson, general manager Tom Benson, and newly hired head coach Sean Payton sent for the jet to pick up Brees in Miami and whisked him to New Orleans.

Once he arrived, the organization immediately made him an offer. He agreed, and his career will one day be enshrined in the storied halls of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

The Drew Brees-Sean Payton connection transformed the National Football League with one of the most potent offensive attacks into a Super Bowl winner. Without March 14, we wouldn't have experienced one of the greatest moments as the New Orleans Saints hoisted the Lombardi Trophy in Miami, Florida, on February 7, 2010.

We could list the numerous records, awards, honors, and recognitions of Brees, as well as the New Orleans Saints offense — but that will come later.

What Drew Brees and his family meant to the fans, teammates, and mainly to the New Orleans Saints and the NFL, are far beyond mere words.

Kudos to the Benson family, Mickey Loomis, and everyone involved in making March 14, 2006 become a special day in New Orleans Saints history.  Happy March 14th, Who Dat Nation!
