Three first-round targets for the Kansas City Chiefs

The good times are rolling in Kansas City since it hosts the NFL Draft on Thursday-Saturday, and the Chiefs have won two Super Bowls in four years.

The Chiefs roster includes Pro Bowlers QB Patrick Mahomes, TE Travis Kelce and DT Chris Jones. They may add another future star because they're "already making calls about moving up" from No. 31 overall, per Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

Subsequently, Kansas City could make waves during the draft. Here are three talented first-round prospects it should target.

Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Chiefs recently invited Flowers to work with Mahomes in Texas. Perhaps they evaluated if there's chemistry between the two-time league MVP and the 22-year-old wideout.

Kansas City must reload at WR after JuJu Smith-Schuster (Patriots) and Mecole Hardman (Jets) left in free agency. Flowers could be an ideal replacement. He tied for the fifth-most receiving TDs in the FBS last season (12 in 12 games). ESPN Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. ranked him as his top WR.

At 5-foot-9 and 182 pounds, Flowers lacks prototypical NFL WR size. It's not a problem for Chiefs HC Andy Reid, however. Small wideouts such as DeSean Jackson (5-foot-10, 175 pounds) and Tyreek Hill (5-foot-10, 191 pounds) became perennial Pro Bowlers under Reid.

Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Alabama

Along with Flowers, the Chiefs are targeting Gibbs, per Breer.

The Chiefs already have a workhorse in RB Isiah Pacheco, but Gibbs could occupy the same role as former RB Jerick McKinnon. Last season, McKinnon caught 56 receptions for 512 yards in 17 games. Gibbs is a dependable pass-catcher, too, recording 44 receptions for 444 yards in 12 games last season.

Gibbs is undersized (5-foot-9, 199 pounds), so he may struggle on inside runs and pass protection. Yet, his versatility could make an exceptional offense — which led the league in scoring (496 points) last season — even better.

Will McDonald IV, DE, Iowa State

The Chiefs recently released former Pro Bowl DE Frank Clark. Second-year DE George Karlaftis III recorded six sacks in 17 games last season, and they signed DE Charles Omenihu. Selecting one more pass-rusher is wise.

In five seasons at Iowa State, McDonald IV recorded 34 sacks, breaking a Big 12 record previously held by Von Miller, an eight-time Pro Bowler. The mark displays his potential and why he could interest the Chiefs.

Per Draft Network's Keith Sanchez, McDonald IV must add more pass-rushing moves to his repertoire since it's one of his weaknesses. Nonetheless, his arsenal should increase as he gains more experience.
