Three-time Pro Bowl CB Xavien Howard wants to retire with Dolphins

Former First-Team All-Pro cornerback Xavien Howard officially signed his historic five-year contract extension with the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday. The deal — which was first reported last week — will keep the 2016 second-round pick with the Fins through the 2026 season.

Howard said Wednesday that he has aspirations of spending the rest of his career in South Beach. He also praised the work new head coach Mike McDaniel has done this offseason and gave a shout out to new teammate Tyreek Hill.

In 72 career regular-season games with Miami, Howard has registered 241 tackles, 71 passes defended and 27 interceptions. Howard earned Pro Bowl nods in 2018, 2020 and 2021, while being named First-Team All-Pro two seasons ago.

The Baylor product led the NFL in interceptions in 2018 (seven) and 2020 (career-high 10), while pacing the league in passes defended in 2020 as well with 20. Howard finished in third place in the AP Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2020, behind only Aaron Donald and T.J. Watt.
