Titans secure top seed, sole first-round bye in the AFC

The Tennessee Titans have a week off after beating the Houston Texans, 28-25, in a game that was a little too close for comfort on Sunday.

The win improved Tennessee's record to 12-5 and -- thanks to a 27-3 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7 -- secured the top seed in the AFC for the Titans. Kansas City also finished 12-5, but will play in the wild-card round as No. 2 seeds no longer receive first-round byes in the 14-team playoff format, which was implemented a year ago.

Even better for the Titans is the news that running back Derrick Henry will likely be ready for a return when Tennessee begins its playoff run. Henry suffered a broken bone in his foot on Halloween after rushing for 937 yards and 10 touchdowns over the first eight games of the season. Henry returned to practice earlier this week and appeared to have a chance at playing on Sunday, but the Titans opted against activating him from injured reserve.

The Titans are one of 12 NFL teams that has never won a Super Bowl. The franchise twice won the AFL Championship during its days as the Houston Oilers and lost in Super Bowl XXXIV immediately after changing its name to the Titans.
