Tom Brady addresses Aaron Rodgers joining Jets from Packers

Retired quarterback Tom Brady understands what Aaron Rodgers is experiencing this week as Rodgers officially closes the book on his Green Bay Packers tenure and prepares to make his regular-season debut with the New York Jets. 

"Well, it's just, there's a different energy about it. It's a newness," Brady explained about the situation during Monday's edition of his "Let's Go!" SiriusXM show and podcast, per Kevin Patra of the NFL's website. "It's a fresh start to try to take where you've been, to bring all the good and then not to bring the tough lessons, you know? Because sometimes the tough lessons always remain unless you work through 'em, you know? So it's like you go through a lot of years at one place and there's a lot of, I would say, mental scar tissue, from losses or relationships or certain experiences." 

Brady, of course, originally joined the New England Patriots via the 2000 NFL Draft and helped the club win six Super Bowl championships before he left the organization as a free agent and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March 2020. In their first campaign together, Brady and the Bucs defeated the Kansas City Chiefs to win Super Bowl LV. 

Rodgers, meanwhile, collected one Super Bowl ring and four NFL Most Valuable Player awards while with the Packers from the 2005 draft through last season. As of Tuesday afternoon, OddsChecker listed the Jets as tied for fourth among the betting favorites at +1100 odds to represent the AFC in Super Bowl LVIII.

The Jets host the division-rival Buffalo Bills for a Week 1 clash this coming Monday night.  

"I'm excited for him," Brady added about Rodgers during the show segment. "He'll be invigorated. Looks like he's having a good time up to this year. I know he has been engaged in the offseason, which is always great, and really trying to connect with his teammates. So I'm excited to see what he does. They have a really good team. They have a really good offense. And, you know, Aaron's been, when he's got good receivers, man, it's pretty dangerous. I think he's gonna have a great year."

Rodgers and his new teammates have embraced the expectations hovering over them since the future Hall of Famer joined the Jets this past spring, and the 39-year-old sounds committed to serving as Gang Green's QB1 for a minimum of two seasons. Brady and Peyton Manning both won Super Bowl titles after they changed teams during their legendary careers, and Rodgers will look to follow in their footsteps as soon as this winter.
