Tom Brady jokes with President Joe Biden about election, being 'Sleepy Tom'
As noted by the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), quarterback Tom Brady and other members of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers visited the White House Tuesday to be honored as Super Bowl champions. It was Brady's first trip to the White House since 2005, and he prepared jokes about both the 2020 election and a moment from the past season he'd probably prefer to forget.
"We found our rhythm, we got on a roll," the seven-time champion remarked during the outdoor ceremony. "Not a lot of people think that we could have won. In fact, I think about 40% of the people still don’t think we won."
President Joe Biden quickly responded: "I understand that."
Brady also referenced how he famously lost track of the number of downs during an October loss at the Chicago Bears and used a version of a nickname former President Donald Trump called Biden while campaigning.
"We had a game in Chicago where I forgot what down it was," Brady said. "I lost track of one down in 21 years of playing, and they started calling me 'Sleepy Tom.' Why they do that to me?''
Whether Brady is golfing with James Corden, passing the Vince Lombardi Trophy over water or allegedly violating NFL rules on reporting injuries, the soon-to-be 44-year-old future Hall of Famer seems to be having fun and living his best life.
