Tony Romo comes up two strokes short in U.S. Open local qualifier

Former Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Tony Romo will have to stick with his fall day job of analyzing NFL games for another year.

Per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, the CBS on-air personality shot a 3-over 75 in a U.S. Open local qualifier held at The Bridges Golf Club in Gunter, Texas, which put the 41-year-old two strokes shy of qualifying for the playoff for the final spot in sectional qualifying.

Romo advanced to sectional qualifying in 2010, the only time he got past the local qualifier stage.

According to Tim Daniels of Bleacher Report, Romo accepted a sponsor's exemption to play in the Veritex Bank Championship last month but finished in last place. He did, however, generate some buzz when he made eagle on his opening hole of that tournament.

Back in October 2020, Romo said during an interview that he sometimes spends six-to-eight hours on golf courses working on his craft except during football seasons, when he's busy with his other duties:

CBS reportedly pays Romo $17.5 million per year for his work calling NFL games, so it's understandable he cuts down on his golfing habit each fall.
