The face of CBS Sports is looking for a massive deal on his next contract with the network, which would net him more money per year than many athletes across the four major North American sports leagues.
According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, Jim Nantz is looking for "Tony Romo money" on his next contract with CBS. Marchand's sources say Nantz is seeking more money than the $17.5 million yearly pay Romo signed just before the coronavirus pandemic began.
Nantz has been the face of CBS for three decades, working NFL games, the Final Four and golf matches. He currently makes $6.5 million per year and his contract expires next summer, Marchand says.
It remains to be seen whether or not CBS would be willing to pay Nantz more money than Romo ... though, they should, as he has much more skin in the broadcasting game than the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback.
The 61-year-old is undoubtedly due for a raise. Marchand notes that lead sports voices across major networks make at least $10 million per year. Fox's Joe Buck makes $10.5 million while NBC's Mike Tirico reportedly makes about the same.
The news surrounding Nantz's contract comes after he said last week that he wants to call the Masters until he's at least 75-years-old, if not longer. If that's the case, he may get one heckuva raise.
