Travis Kelce gets shoutout from The Rock for post-game trash talk

Chiefs fans weren’t the only one who appreciated Travis Kelce’s shenanigans following Kansas City’s 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday.

Kelce, a presumed wrestling fan, borrowed some material from former WWE star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as he roasted Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval for insulting quarterback Patrick Mahomes and referring to the Chiefs’ stadium as “Burrowhead,” which earned a tip of the cap from Johnson.

Known for his high-level trash talking during his days as an active wrestler for WWE, Johnson’s promo skills were second-to-none.

And while Kelce’s smack talking game is typically less brash than it was on Sunday, I doubt anyone blames him given the disrespectful nature of Pureval’s remarks.

Kelce wasn’t the only Chiefs player who took shots at the Bengals.

During a post-game interview Mahomes said, “I’m going to celebrate this one. I’m going to get back with my team; I don’t think we have any cigars but we’ll be ready to go at the Super Bowl.”

Defensive tackle Chris Jones also admitted that he too was motivated throughout the week by the “Burrowhead” comments.

“Don’t ever, ever, ever—and I’m going to look into the camera when I say this—disrespect Arrowhead,” Jones said, via NFL Network’s James Palmer. “I don’t care how many times you can beat us. Don’t ever disrespect Arrowhead Stadium at GEHA.”
