Veteran DL Danny Shelton visiting Giants

The New York Giants are searching for a replacement for defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson, who departed the club via free agency and signed a two-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings. Veteran Danny Shelton could be an option at a relatively inexpensive price.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Shelton will meet with the Giants on Monday. The 27-year-old spent the 2020 season with the Detroit Lions and accumulated 37 total tackles with one sack, two tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, and one pass breakup across 12 games.

"In 2020, Shelton was given a career-low grade of 51.1 courtesy of Pro Football Focus, but that came after four consecutive seasons grading out between 69.6 and 82.1," Dan Benton explained for Giants Wire.

Shelton previously played for the New England Patriots, where he earned a Super Bowl ring. New York head coach Joe Judge was employed by the Patriots during Shelton's tenure with the club.

Shelton entered the NFL when the Cleveland Browns drafted him 12th overall in 2015, but he largely underwhelmed over three seasons before Cleveland traded him to New England in March 2018.

Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports that Shelton will meet with New York defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and defensive line coach Sean Spencer. Judge is attending the University of Miami pro day.
