With the first practice of training camp set to take place on Wednesday, Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell provided a few injury updates to the media on Tuesday.

Brian O'Neill

O'Neill will not be on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list to begin training camp, but the Vikings are going to limit his reps a bit and get him gradually built up for Week 1. The stud right tackle suffered an Achilles injury against the Packers last season in Week 17, keeping him out for the team's first-round playoff loss.

"We will continue kind of a pre-determined plan for him that allows him to really progress towards the ultimate goal, which has always been September 10th against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers," O'Connell said. "There'll be a process throughout camp."

Andre Carter II

On Monday, one of the Vikings' roster moves was to place Carter on the Active/PUP list. The standout undrafted rookie won't be practicing to start camp, but O'Connell hopes it isn't a major thing.

"(Carter) sustained a soft-tissue injury training this summer," he said. "Hopefully that's something we can pull him off of in the not-too-distant future and have him start practicing."

The Vikings would love to see Carter get healthy and starting developing, but the reality is that he's unlikely to see a big role in 2023.

Chris Reed

Reed, a veteran backup offensive lineman, was placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury (NFI) list and appears to have a slightly longer timetable than Carter.

"Chris Reed sustained a non-football injury away from the facility, lower-leg injury," O'Connell said. "We're hoping he's not that far behind Andre to be able to get going."

Everyone else will start camp healthy

Outside of those three players, the rest of the Vikings' roster is healthy to begin camp. That includes rookie receiver Jordan Addison, who missed the offseason program due to injury. Other players who were hurt earlier this offseason but are now healthy include Blake Proehl, Ross Blacklock, and Sam Schlueter.
