The Washington Football Team is replacing the loss of Peyton Barber by signing veteran running back Jonathan Williams to their practice squad.

Barber was signed to the practice squad last week after being released on Aug. 31 during final roster cuts. The veteran was beat out by undrafted rookie Jarett Patterson for RB3. However, the Las Vegas Raiders were able to poach Barber away Friday, signing him to their 53-man roster.

Williams was also part of Washington’s final cuts. His reps throughout training camp and preseason were limited as he was essentially fifth on the depth chart. He’s bounced around since entering the league in 2016. He has made stops in Buffalo, Denver, New Orleans, Indianapolis and Detroit, as well.

This will be his third stint on Washington’s practice squad in the past two seasons. He initially signed to Washington’s practice squad last October after being cut by the Lions. The Lions poached him away three weeks later. But, cut Williams in December before he ultimately re-signed to Washington’s practice squad.

Williams will be stashed away and serve as the RB4 behind starter Antonio Gibson, scatback JD McKissic and Patterson.
