Washington WR Rome Odunze compares himself to six-time Pro Bowler

The 2024 NFL Draft class is loaded at wide receiver, and Washington’s Rome Odunze is expected to be among the first selected in April.

The 21-year-old wideout believes he’s the best receiver in the draft, which is no surprise considering he compares himself to one of the top wide receivers in the NFL, Davante Adams.

Adams, a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro selection, is arguably a top-five receiver in the NFL. Since becoming a full-time starting WR in 2016, Adams leads the NFL in receptions (784), targets (1,207) and touchdowns (91), and he ranks second in receiving yards (9,852).

“I do a lot of his split-release technique,” Odunze told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine. “I'm still learning, still trying to figure out how he's so twitchy with it. I'm still getting there. But his size, his route-running ability, his contested-catch ability — I like to compare myself to him.”

Odunze, at 6-foot-3, 216 pounds, is close to Adams, 6-foot-1, 215 pounds, in size, and the two play a similar style in their route running and physicality in competing for jump balls.

Both are among the top of their position in contested catches with Odunze winning 51.% of his contested catches at Washington and Adams winning 42.3% of his in the NFL.

The two receivers also have similar numbers in several other categories, including yards after the catch per reception (Adams 4.7, Odunze 5.2), drop percentage (Adams 6.3%, Odunze 6.9%), and passer rating when targeted (Adams 108.1, Odunze 113.7), per Pro Football Focus.
