The Cincinnati Bengals fell into an early hole against the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI, but Zac Taylor helped them climb out of it with a gutsy play call in the red zone.
The Bengals were trailing 13-3 late in the second quarter when Taylor drew up some trickery on second-and-goal. He called a pass play for running back Joe Mixon, who had previously never attempted a pass in his five-year NFL career. Mixon threw a strike to Tee Higgins in the back of the end zone.
You can understand why the Rams didn’t see it coming. Mixon’s last pass attempt came in college when he was with Oklahoma.
The score cut L.A.’s lead to 13-10.
