Watch: Cowboys tie game against Chargers with crucial touchdown on a fourth-down conversion
Dallas needed a yard, but it got a lot more than that.
Facing an early decision on a fourth-and-one in a 7-0 game, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy kept his offense on the field at the Chargers' 18-yard line.
Quarterback Dak Prescott faked a handoff to running back Tony Pollard and Chargers rookie edge rusher Tuli Tuipulotu bit. Prescott tucked the ball and ran untouched for the score to tie the game.
Dallas needed a solid drive in response to a three-and-out on its first drive and a Chargers touchdown. Prescott began the Cowboys' second possession with two completions for 34 yards and was responsible for 63 yards overall.
After last week's 42-10 thumping against the 49ers when Prescott finished 14-of-24 for 153 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions, his stronger start against the Chargers was a welcome return to form.
Prescott will need to make more plays like that to keep his critics from chirping and to give Dallas a chance of leaving "Monday Night Football" with a win.
