Watch: Denver Broncos unveil new 'snowcapped' helmet

On Tuesday, the Denver Broncos unveiled a new alternate helmet, and it's a radical design change.

The "snowcapped" helmet features a white shell and face mask. Per the team's website, the Broncos have only worn five helmets throughout their 64-year history. This is the first time they've added an all-white helmet to their lineup.

Other changes include Denver abandoning its modern logo and throwing it back to a classic with a big orange letter "D" and a horse on its hind legs in the center. This evokes nostalgia for some Denver fans as it was the organization's emblem from 1968 to 1996.

Denver will pair the helmets with its all-orange uniform and announce when it will don the outfit later this month.

Since the NFL eased its alternate helmet rules in 2021, teams such as Tampa Bay, Minnesota, Seattle and Tennessee also revealed new jerseys with a classic flair. While those franchises are simply taking advantage of a new rule, Denver might have a different objective.

The Broncos haven't changed their uniforms since 1997. Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reported that they surveyed fans about a potential makeover in November.

"We continue to research it," Broncos president Damani Leech said of a uniform overhaul, via Kosmider. "We continue to work internally with our creative team and Nike to explore possibilities for the future. Those of you who track this around the league know it's a long process. So we're being patient with it and making great progress."

If Denver makes a change, it will take time. Teams must notify the NFL one year before a change takes place. Nonetheless, the new alternates might mark the beginning of a rebrand.
