Why Chargers OC believes the team is 'going to be throwing in a different jet stream'

New Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore believes the size of their receiving corps is a huge advantage and will create several opportunities.

"We like to say we've got so much height on this team," Moore recently said during an appearance on "The Season with Peter Schrager." "We're going to be throwing in a different jet stream... it's gonna be a lot of fun."

Chargers WRs Mike Williams and rookie Quentin Johnston are 6-foot-4, while Keenan Allen is 6-foot-2. Their TEs are tall, too, Gerald Everett is 6-foot-3 and Donald Parham Jr. is 6-foot-8. The unit's size could help Moore exploit defenses, creating mismatches in the passing game.
Moore could also use the height of his new pass-catchers will help quarterback Justin Herbert reach the next level.

Even though the 25-year-old threw for the second-most yards in the league (4,739 in 17 games) last season, he only averaged 6.8 yards per attempt, a career low and 27th in the NFL. Under previous offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, Los Angeles emphasized the short passing game, limiting Herbert's production since he wasn't in a system where he could throw the ball deep.

Conversely, Moore uses concepts from Air Coryell, an offense that relies on a potent vertical passing attack. It excels when it has a QB with a strong arm and tall targets who can make difficult catches downfield. The Chargers roster is a perfect match because now, it has both.

It's not out of the question to consider the Chargers as a contender to have one of the most explosive offenses in the league, which could help them win their first playoff game in four years.
