WR Robert Woods: Joining Titans 'is beneficial for my career'

The Tennessee Titans were looking for a veteran wide receiver after moving on from Julio Jones following a single disappointing season. Signing one-time Pro Bowler Allen Robinson while waiting to possibly re-add star Odell Beckham Jr. to the roster made Robert Woods surplus to requirements with the Los Angeles Rams.

A deal involving both clubs and Woods made sense and came to be over this past weekend. On Wednesday, the 29-year-old who went down with a torn ACL in November explained why he selected the Titans after the Rams gave him the opportunity to choose his next employer.

"They told me I'd have a say in where I'd be traded," Woods remarked, per Turron Davenport of ESPN. "I did my research and spoke with past players that were here. And just having a relationship with (offensive coordinator) Todd Downing and (wide receivers coach) Rob Moore already from being in Buffalo. Then Derrick Henry, Ryan Tannehill, A.J. Brown ... they're a top-performing team and the Coach of the Year [Mike Vrabel], so joining this team is beneficial for my career."

Woods added he won't be able to participate in OTAs or minicamps as he continues his recovery. Instead, he said he'll spend such offseason activities "building relationships mentally" and doing whatever he can to learn from Tannehill until he's ready to catch passes from his new quarterback in meaningful games.

Woods appeared in 16 regular-season contests during the 2020 season and recorded 90 catches for 936 yards and six touchdowns. Before that, he posted back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving campaigns.
