Former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton is a free agent, and the Jacksonville Jaguars are among teams interested in the veteran.
While the Jaguars are comfortable with giving Gardner Minshew full control of the Jacksonville offense, they may see Dalton as a potential fallback plan more than anything ... and they reportedly don't see the 32-year-old as a Minshew upgrade.
Jaguars are absolutely interested in Andy Dalton — but even if he signs, based on my conversations, I’d anticipate Gardner Minshew as the Week 1 starter. I don’t sense Jags would be signing Dalton with the mindset of “upgrading” from Minshew. They still like what they have there.

Dalton does have far more experience than Minshew, but that doesn't mean he's necessarily better than the young quarterback.
The former Bengal went 2-11 last season with a 59.5 completion percentage, 3,494 yards, 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions which is just ... not great.
Meanwhile, Minshew went 6-6 with a 60.6 completion percentage in his first season with the Jaguars and threw for 3,271 yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions. That's better than Dalton, wouldn't you say?
Jags head coach Doug Marrone is fully prepared to give Minshew the chance to succeed, but if he can't handle the pressure then maybe signing Dalton will end up being a good idea.
