The National Hockey League announced Friday that the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery will be held on Tuesday, May 7, at NHL Network’s studio in Secaucus, N.J. The event will be broadcast on ESPN, Sportsnet and TVA Sports. The time will be announced next week.

The 2024 NHL Draft Lottery will determine the order for the first 16 picks in the first round of the draft.

Because of the changes made in 2021, teams may only move up 10 spots due to the lottery. Therefore, here are the odds for the 11 teams eligible for the number-one pick:

Rank Team Record Pts. % Lottery Odds
1 San Jose Sharks 19-53-9 .287 25.5%
2 Chicago Blackhawks 23-53-5 .317 13.5%
3 Anaheim Ducks 26-50-5 .360 11.5%
4 Columbus Blue Jackets 27-43-12 .402 9.5%
5 Montreal Canadiens 30-36-16 .463 8.5%
6 Arizona Coyotes 36-41-5 .470 7.5%
7 Ottawa Senators 37-41-4 .476 6.5%
8 Seattle Kraken 34-35-13 .494 6.0%
9 Calgary Flames 38-39-5 .494 5.0%
10 New Jersey Devils 38-39-5 .494 3.5%
11 Buffalo Sabres 39-37-6 .512 3.0%

Teams can also only win the lottery twice in a five-year span. So yes, the Chicago Blackhawks can still win another one after getting Connor Bedard through the lottery in 2023.

The new rules also limit the lottery drawings to two, meaning that the last-placed team (San Jose) cannot drop lower than the No. 3 overall pick.

2024 NHL Draft Lottery Odds: Which teams have the best chance to select Macklin Celebrini?

As with Bedard last year, the number-one overall pick seems to be unanimous again in 2024. Boston University forward Macklin Celebrini has been in the top spot across the board and only helped his cause by winning the Hobey Baker Award as the best player in college hockey.

With BU losing to Denver in the Frozen Four semifinals, Celebrini remains undecided on whether he will return for his sophomore season or leave for the NHL. The team that picks him will likely play a big role in that decision.

The NHL Draft is scheduled for NHL June 28-29 at the Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada. It will be the first time an NHL Draft has taken place in Vegas, and is expected to be a massive event at the new Sphere.
