Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar confirmed on Sunday that forward Logan O’Connor will undergo hip surgery and be forced to miss the rest of the 2023-24 season.

Through six seasons with the Avalanche, the 27-year-old O’Connor scored 35 goals and 47 assists for 82 points in 263 career games. This current season, O’Connor has 13 goals and 12 assists for 25 points in 57 games, his highest points-per-game average in his career.

O’Connor has been a reliable two-way forward in the Avalanche’s bottom-six and a solid penalty killer. He is in the second year of a three-year deal contract signed ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Going into the March 10 slate of games, the Avalanche are 40-20-5 with 85 points, third in the Central Division. Colorado has won three straight and are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.

The Avalanche will take part in a three-game road trip against the western Canadian teams. Their next game is Tuesday on the road against the Calgary Flames, followed by the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday. They wrap up the Canadian road trip on Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers.
