The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that they have acquired goaltender Malcolm Subban from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for future considerations.

Subban signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Blues on Jul. 1, 2023.

The 30-year-old has played all season for the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate the Springfield Thunderbirds. Subban has put together an 11-14-4 record with a 2.94 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage.

Subban spent the 2022-23 season on the Buffalo Sabres farm team, the Rochester Americans, where he posted a 20-14-5 record to go with a .903 save percentage. He has appeared in 86 NHL games over parts of eight seasons with the Sabres, Boston Bruins, Vegas Golden Knights, and Chicago Blackhawks, posting a career 36-33-9 record and a .898 save percentage. Subban last played in the NHL during the 2022-23 campaign with Buffalo, posting a 0-2-1 record.

The Toronto, Ontario product was originally selected by the Boston Bruins No. 24 overall in the 2012 NHL Draft. Subban was a star for the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) Belleville Bulls and in the 2012-13 campaign, he put together a nice 29-11-4 record and earned himself a spot on Canada’s World Junior squad. Subban made his NHL debut during the 2016-17 campaign with Boston, appearing in one game.
