Bruins avoid falling behind 3-0, defeat Hurricanes in Game 3
The Boston Bruins kept its hopes alive on Friday night, defeating the Carolina Hurricanes, 4-2, in Game 3 of their opening-round playoff matchup.
With the win, the Bruins avoided falling behind 3-0 in the best of seven series, which now favors the Hurricanes, 2-1.
Special teams were the key to victory for the Bruins in Game 3. Boston was 2-for-5 with the man advantage, getting powerplay goals from David Pastrnak and Taylor Hall. Carolina was 0-for-5 on the powerplay, while Boston added a shorthanded goal by Charlie Coyle.
With the game tied 1-1 in the second period, goals by Brad Marchand and Pastrnak gave the Bruins a 3-1 advantage heading into the third period. Hall's tally, just over four minutes into the third period, sealed the victory for Boston.
Vincent Trockeck and Jacob Slavin scored for Carolina; goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov had 24 saves.
Marchand led the way for the Bruins, finishing with three points on the night, tallying a goal and two assists. Meanwhile, Coyle and Pastrnak had a goal and an assist apiece.
Bruins' goaltender Jeremy Swayman was solid in net, making 25 saves to earn the win.
Boston will look to even up the series at 2-2 in Game 4 on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. EST.
