Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo's injury not concussion-related
The Boston Bruins will be without defenseman Brandon Carlo on a week-to-week basis. However, there is some good news for the injured 24-year-old.
Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy said that Carlo's injury is unrelated to the concussion he suffered on March 5 against the Washington Capitals, according to 98.5 The Sports Hub's Ty Anderson.
"This is a new injury," Cassidy said. "[Carlo] was feeling good. Just got hit in an awkward spot. This is definitely a new injury.
"Upper body, below the neck."
Carlo exited Thursday's loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first period due to an undisclosed upper-body injury. The Colorado native has a lengthy concussion history (three confirmed concussions since 2017, per Anderson), so it's a good sign that he doesn't have another one.
Carlo has been a staple in Boston's defense since the 2016-17 campaign. In 23 games this season, he has two goals, an assist and is averaging 18:29 of ice time.
With the second-round pick sidelined, Steven Kampfer and Jarred Tinordi could see more playing time in the coming weeks.
