According to reports, the Boston Bruins are closing in on adding veteran forward James van Riemsdyk to their roster on a one-year contract worth $1 million. The Bruins have been actively pursuing cost-effective deals with several veterans, and van Riemsdyk is set to be one of their acquisitions.

Van Riemsdyk brings experience as a middle-six winger and offers versatility to the Bruins’ forward group. While his net-front ability may have diminished over time, he still possesses valuable skills. Signing him to a one-year, $1 million deal provides the Bruins with an affordable option to bolster their middle-six winger depth.

Selected as the second overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, van Riemsdyk signed his three-year entry-level contract in 2009 and later inked a six-year deal worth $25 million in 2011. He was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs as his new contract took effect and spent the entirety of his contract with the Leafs. In the summer of 2018, van Riemsdyk returned to the Philadelphia Flyers, signing a five-year contract worth $35 million.

The Bruins’ pursuit of van Riemsdyk highlights their focus on adding experienced players to their roster while maintaining financial flexibility. As the offseason progresses, the Bruins will continue to shape their team for the upcoming season, utilizing strategic signings to strengthen their lineup.
