The Calgary Flames have placed forward Walker Duehr on waivers, The Athletic‘s Chris Johnston reported Wednesday afternoon.

Duehr, 26, has collected four points (one goal, three assists) in 19 games with the Flames this season. He’s under contract through the end of the 2024-25 season at an $825,000 cap hit.

Through 47 games over parts of the last three seasons with the Flames, Duehr has racked up eight goals and 15 points. He’s on a one-way deal that will pay him the same in the NHL and AHL this year and next.

Duehr enjoyed a productive run with the Flames to close out the 2022-23 season, scoring seven goals and adding four assists for 11 points in 27 games.

The Flames originally signed Duehr as an undrafted college free agent out of Minnesota State University – Mankato in April 2021. Duehr became the first player born in South Dakota to play in the NHL when he made his debut with the Flames in the 2021-22 season.

Duehr has appeared in 105 career American Hockey League games with the Flames’ affiliates (the Stockton Heat and Calgary Wranglers) since turning pro, picking up 26 goals and 49 points over that span. He’s added five goals and 11 points in 22 Calder Cup Playoff games.

The Flames currently rank fifth in the Pacific Division with a 21-8-5 record through 44 games this season. They’re also on the verge of getting a couple of notable players in Jakob Pelletier and Oliver Kylington back from AHL conditioning stints.

Duehr is the only player on waivers this Wednesday afternoon. The lone player waived on Tuesday, Pittsburgh’s Radim Zohorna, was confirmed by Johnston to have cleared.

If Duehr clears waivers, he’ll most likely be assigned to the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers, with whom he appeared in 41 games last season. The Wranglers currently lead the AHL Pacific Division with a 22-10-3 record.
