The Carolina Hurricanes have signed a couple of prospects to their respective Entry Level Contracts (ELC). The two players are both forwards, one is the Russian Gleb Trikozov and the other who signs his ELC is New Brunswick product Bradly Nadeau. These are two players who will be fighting for jobs with the big club in the coming years.
Bradly Nadeau Signs His ELC with the Carolina Hurricanes
Bradly Nadeau was the Hurricanes first round pick in the 2023 NHL entry draft. He is small in stature, but his shot more than makes up for it. He’s known for releasing absolute rockets from seemingly awkward positions. Furthermore, this was shown in his statistical record from playing in the BCHL for the Penticton Vees. In 2022-23, he was over a two-point-a-game pace. He finished with 45 goals and 68 assists for 113 points in 54 regular season games. Then, he wasn’t finished with his dominance. His Penticton Vee side lost only one game en route to a BCHL Fred Page Cup Championship. Moreover, Nadeau again eclipsed two points per game, with 17 goals, and 18 assists in 17 playoff contests. He followed this up with a solid performance at the University of Maine in 2023-24. He tallied 19 goals and 27 assists for 46 points in 37 games. Quite frankly, the Hurricanes had seen enough. If he can find chemistry with a set-up guy like Sebastian Aho, look for him to be an offensive force in the NHL sooner rather than later.
KHL Player Gleb Trikozov Also Signs his ELC with Carolina
So far in Trikozov’s career, he has bounced around a bit between the Russian leagues. Over the past couple of seasons, he has played in the MHL, the VHL, and a cup of coffee in the KHL. Perhaps with Carolina signing him, they will allow him time to develop a more stable development plan.
Now, he has been effective at all levels he’s played. In the Russian junior league, the MHL, back in 2021-22, he had a huge year. He scored 45 points in 35 regular season games. Next, he went on to chip in 18 points in 13 playoff games while playing for Omskie Yastreby. This season, he has played in all three leagues, mostly alternating between the VHL and the MHL. With Omskie Krylia of the VHL, the pro league under the KHL, he had 11 goals and 10 assists through 39 games. Not bad numbers for a 19-year-old. In addition, he had success playing for Russia internationally, recording a goal and four assists in five games at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. He has good vision and look for him to be dynamic with the puck when he does crack the Canes lineup. Trikozov was the Hurricanes second round selection, 60th overall, in the 2022 NHL entry draft.
What Do These Signings Mean for the Hurricanes
The Hurricanes will have to decide in the summer if these signings are impactful for the 2024-25 roster or not. With UFAs like Jake Guentzel or Teuvo Teravainen coming up, will they want to bring those guys back if they can replace their offence much cheaper? Also, they have some big RFAs due, such as Seth Jarvis or Martin Necas. Even though it is too early to know how close the Hurricanes will be to the cap for 2024-25, those two RFAs in particular will be very important. Having reliable prospects who can be ready to go within a year or two will be imperative for this forward group.
