The Washington Capitals announced on Tuesday that forward T.J. Oshie has been placed on Injured Reserve (IR) after missing Sunday’s game vs. the Carolina Hurricanes with a lower-body injury.

The team also announced that it was recalling forwards Ivan Miroshnichenko and Hendrix Lapierre from the AHL’s Hershey Bears.

Oshie has scored two goals and two assists for four points in 21 games in 2023-24. It’s unclear how the 36-year-old injured himself, having played 18:51 last Saturday against the Nashville Predators, a game in which he scored his second goal of the season.

Now in his 16th NHL season and ninth with the Capitals, injuries have continued to plague the 2005 first-round pick. Oshie has missed seven games this season, suffering an upper-body injury in November. Oshie is in the seventh year of an eight-year contract with a $5.75 million cap hit, one he signed in the 2017 offseason before hitting free agency.

As for the latest call-ups, it’s a pair of former first-round picks who find themselves drawing into the Capitals’ lineup.

Miroshnichenko, their 2022 first rounder, has eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in 27 games with the AHL’s Bears this season. He leads all Bears rookie in goals, assists and points, and is tied for seventh among AHL rookies for goals.

Lapierre, the team’s 2020 first-round pick, has a goal and two assists for three points with the Capitals this season, recording all three in Washington’s 4-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Nov. 18.

In 11 games with Hershey, he has two goals and six assists for eight points. The 21-year-old scored 15 goals and 15 assists for 30 points in 60 games during his first professional season with the Bears in 2022-23.

The Capitals next game is Wednesday as they host the New York Islanders.
