Today, it was announced that forward Kent Johnson was placed on the injured reserve due to a torn labrum in his left shoulder. This will take Johnson out for the remainder of the Columbus Blue Jackets season. The injury happened on February 28 in a game against the New York Rangers. He is expected to have surgery later this week to repair the tear.

Johnson had previously missed some NHL games this year due to injury but also due to playing some games for the Blue Jacket’s AHL affiliate the Cleveland Monsters. He played 42 NHL games and amassed six goals and 10 assists for 16 points. In the AHL he played 10 games and notched five goals and 10 assists for 15 points. While Johnson didn’t start the year as fast as others, his short stint in the AHL seemed to help him gain confidence and find his game. At 21 years old, he’s yet to see his prime and is still developing his skills. We’re sure to see more of Kent Johnson next season.

Other Roster Moves

Kent Johnson moving to the IR means that a roster spot has opened up. The Blue Jackets have elected to bring up goaltender Jet Greaves from the Monsters to fill that spot. Obviously not intended to replace Johnson, Greaves being brought up could help alleviate any wear and tear on the other goalkeepers, as well as help him prepare for the upcoming AHL playoffs.

At 22 years old, Jet Greaves has a total of three career NHL games and has a career .936 save percentage and one win. For the Cleveland Monsters this year he has played 37 games, has a .910 save percentage, and had 25 wins, 9 losses, and three overtime losses.
