The Arizona Coyotes have signed free agent defenseman Matt Dumba to a one-year, $3.9M contract.

The 29-year-old spent the 2022-23 season with the Minnesota Wild, where he registered four goals and 10 assists for 14 points in 79 games while averaging 21:17 of ice time. He added two assists in six Stanley Cup Playoff games as the Dallas Stars eliminated the Wild in the first round.

Dumba was selected No. 7 overall in the 2012 NHL Draft by the Wild and has spent his entire career. Dumba played for the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League (WHL) during his draft year. He notched 20 goals and 57 points in 69 games that season and represented Team Canada at the IIHF Under-18 World Junior Championships, where he led the entire tournament with 12 points in seven games, capturing a bronze medal. 

The Regina, Saskatchewan, product spent five years in the WHL, collecting 151 points in 225 games with the Red Deer Rebels and Portland Winterhawks. He won the WHL Rookie of the Year trophy in 2010-11.

The 6-foot, right-shot defender made his NHL debut in 2013-14, appearing in 13 games and registering two points in that frame before being returned to the WHL to play for Portland. Dumba found a regular role in the line-up the following season. 

He set a career-high in points during the 2017-18 season, notching 14 goals and 36 assists for 50 points in 82 games. Throughout his 10-year NHL career thus far, Dumba has appeared in 598 games, all with the Wild, collecting 79 goals and 157 assists for 236 points; he has amassed 13 fighting majors.

In 2019-20, Dumba won the King Clancy Trophy, the NHL’s Leadership and Humanitarian Award, and in 2020-21 Dumba was a finalist for the Bill Masterton Trophy.
