The Dallas Stars have re-signed goaltender Jake Oettinger to a three-year contract, the club announced Thursday.

Oettinger’s new deal runs through the 2024–25 season and carries a $4 million annual cap hit. The Stars originally selected the 23-year-old goaltender in the first round (No. 26 overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft.

Oettinger appeared in 48 games with the Stars during the 2021–22 regular season, posting a 30–15–1 record and a .914 save percentage. He entered the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs as the Stars’ starting goaltender.

As the Stars faced the Calgary Flames in the first round of the playoffs, Oettinger elevated his game to an extreme level. The 6’5″, 220-pound netminder almost single-handedly stole the series for the Stars, allowing just 13 goals in total despite facing an average of 41 shots per game.

Oettinger’s .954 save percentage ultimately stood as the highest of the playoffs. He helped the Stars take Game 7 of the first round to overtime, where the Flames peppered him with shots for 15 minutes before forward Johnny Gaudreau finally scored the winner. With 64 saves, Oettinger became the second goaltender to make more than 60 in a playoff Game 7.

The Stars now have Oettinger, Scott Wedgewood, and Anton Khudobin signed for the 2022–23 season, although Khudobin underwent hip surgery in the spring and may not be ready for training camp.

Additionally, Dallas still has one RFA left to sign, and he’s a big one: Jason Robertson. According to CapFriendly, the Stars currently have an estimated $6.3 million to get a deal done with their star winger.
