Devils' Kyle Palmieri being held out vs. Capitals in anticipation of a trade

New Jersey Devils forward Kyle Palmieri will not suit up against the Washington Capitals on Sunday.

According to Palmieri's agent, Stephen Bartlett, the former first-round pick could be traded and is being held out of the lineup for precautionary reasons.

Palmieri has spent the last six seasons in New Jersey and has been the subject of trade rumors over the last few seasons. The 30-year-old is in the final year of his five-year deal.

According to The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun, Palmieri and the Devils were trying to hammer out an extension, but things did not work out.

It's unclear which teams are showing interest in the winger.

Palmieri has eight goals and nine assists in 34 games this season. He has notched more than 40 points in each of his seasons with the Devils.
