Exactly one day after the New Jersey Devils reassigned Tyler Wotherspoon (& Nico Daws) to the American hockey league, the team announced they have recalled the 31-year-old defenseman again.
Following Tuesday’s morning skate, interim head coach Travis Green informed the media that defenseman John Marino will not play in Tuesday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Marino played on Sunday against the Vegas Golden Knights, however, missed the previous two games against the Dallas Stars and Arizona Coyotes.
Green did not indicate that Marino is dealing with a new injury, therefore, it appears the same upper-body injury he was dealing with has flared up.
As a result of mounting injuries once again this season, the Devils require reinforcements. They remain without their number one defenseman Dougie Hamilton, Jonas Siegenthaler, and now Marino who seemingly is dealing with an upper-body injury.
Santeri Hatakka appears to be replacing Marino in the lineup against the Penguins, while Wotherspoon is likely on the roster in the case that New Jersey finds themselves in need of another body.
Wotherspoon did not attend Tuesday’s morning skate but rather met the devils in New Jersey later in the day.
