Flyers' Samuel Morin fined for unsportsmanlike conduct
The Philadelphia Flyers fell to the New York Rangers 8-3 on Thursday, and Philadelphia forward Samuel Morin lost a little something extra after the game.
On Friday, the NHL confirmed that Morin was fined $3,017.24, the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement, for unsportsmanlike conduct related to an incident involving Rangers forward Brendan Lemieux with under 90 seconds remaining in the contest.
The fine money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
Morin sparked the altercation with a cross-check and then held on to Lemieux before allowing his opponent to drop his gloves. However, Morin then appeared to grab Lemieux's hair in an attempt to slam his uncovered head onto the ice after the punches stopped:
Per Scouting the Refs, the NHL could've looked to suspend the 25-year-old for one game.
Morin currently has zero points across five contests with the Flyers this season. The Rangers and Flyers are both on 34 points, three behind the fourth-place Boston Bruins in the NHL East standings. The top four teams from each division qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
