The Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenseman Nick Seeler to a four-year contract worth $2.7 million per season.

The signing was first reported by TSN’s Darren Dreger.

Seeler was placed on injured reserve earlier in the day, and the team called up defenseman Adam Ginning from the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Seeler was one of the most talked-about names in trade rumors, with Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli ranking him 15th on his most recent trade targets board. The team elected to trade Sean Walker to the Colorado Avalanche earlier on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old has one goal, 12 points, 78 penalty minutes, and 111 hits in 63 games this season with the Flyers. Seeler is in his third season with the Flyers after joining the club in 2021-22. Under the previous Flyers regime of Chuck Fletcher, he signed a two-year, $1.5 million contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $775,000. Seeler is an unrestricted free agent come July 1.

Seeler was originally selected No. 131 overall in the fifth round of the 2011 NHL Draft by the Minnesota Wild. The Eden Prairie, Minnesota product spent parts of three seasons with the Wild appearing in 99 games and notching 11 points and 93 penalty minutes. Seeler also spent parts of one season with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2019-20, appearing in six games.

Ginning has recorded 13 points in 52 games this season in the AHL and has the third-best production among Phantoms’ defenders. The 24-year-old Swedish product made his NHL debut during the 2022-23 campaign on April 11 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He appeared in just one game before being sent back to the AHL. It’s unclear whether Ginning will draw into the lineup or not.
