The Vegas Golden Knights couldn’t have asked for a better start to their first-round matchup against the Dallas Stars. After a 4-3 win over the Stars on Monday, the defending Stanley Cup champions took Game 2 Wednesday night with a 3-1 win, taking a 2-0 lead in this best-of-seven series.

With two consecutive home losses, the team with the best regular season record in the Western Conference is two losses away from their season ending. Can Roope Hintz and Tyler Seguin get involved on the scoresheet? Can Jake Oettinger improve on his .850 SV%? How can head coach Peter DeBoer improve his group?

On Thursday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss the Golden Knights’ dominance through the first two games, and if the Stars have a chance at coming back in this first-round series.

Tyler Yaremchuk: A disappointing start for the Stars who have run into a healthy Golden Knights team, who look as good as they did 12 months ago. Mark Stone hasn’t missed a beat, Tomas Hertl hasn’t missed a beat, Noah Hanafin is scoring, and all those things that would scare you about Vegas are coming true, making the nightmare a reality for Dallas.

Frank Seravalli: Oh they’re living it, because now, you dropped the first two games on home ice, and T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas is going to explode for Game 3 and 4. You couldn’t have dreamed up a better start for the Golden Knights.

It’s not even that the Stars have played poorly, they’ve just been beaten by a better team in these first two games. For me, Mark Stone changes the complexion of everything. He is a series changer. You get a point-per-game back who is not only the heartbeat of your team, but has Selke Trophy credentials, and changes the aura of the Golden Knights.
